Digital transformation from an operational and management perspective


The role of digital services and sales channels is growing, IT environments are maturing. The growing saturation with IT and data creates challenges on the operational side of enterprises. To take advantage of digital transformation, companies must make efforts to create consistent visions about its impact on business.

research on digital transformation, the most important elements of this concept, according to Polish managers, are: optimization of existing business processes thanks to their digitization (58%), increasing employee efficiency thanks to the adaptation of modern IT solutions (such as: tools for group work, mobile solutions, AI or automation – 49%), as well as launching digital distribution channels and access to services (45%).

The concept of digital transformation is also often understood as the creation of new business processes and the resulting revenue streams, process automation and improvement of management capabilities (including internal information flow in the company or sales management processes). Digital transformation is also a change in the management culture of the organization and the modernization of software development processes (using the DevOps approach and such technological solutions as: cloud-based development and test platforms, microservices, containers, low-code solutions).

“Another aspect of digital transformation is the use of huge data sets by enterprises and institutions,” adds Jarosław Modrzewski, product manager in the B2B Business Development Department at Plus. “The management boards of companies face a big challenge: to develop ideas and appropriate mechanisms to analyze data in such a way as to increase the efficiency of their business. The key is both the implementation of the right tools for business analytics and the implementation of organizational changes within the company ”.

Business goals of digital transformation

The IDC analytical center also conducted a study on digital transformation in October / November 2017. Analysts determined that the most important goals of digital transformation are: cost reduction (60%), improvement of the quality and attractiveness of the product and service offer (54%), improvement of business communication (43%), as well as increasing customer knowledge (32%).

  • The management boards of enterprises and institutions are increasingly interested in the implementation of digital technologies. Strong motivators are the expectations of customers who require new access channels to services and employees who expect improvement in working conditions.
  • Competitive pressure from companies that have already taken steps towards digital transformation is also constantly mounting.

At the same time, the availability of modern technological facilities and the range of possible options in the area of ​​developing the corporate IT environment are improving: from more and more mature cloud and outsourcing services, through various forms of financing IT investments, to specialized IT competences. In the latter case, the value of the IT specialist rental services market is symptomatic, which, according to the data of the “Computerworld TOP200” report, amounted to PLN 1.1 billion in 2017, ie nearly 80% more than the year before (PLN 612 million). In the form of services, companies reach for competences and opportunities that were not available to them before.
